Build a Quilt
Build a Quilt
This workshop is for the confident piecer who is ready to create a quilt from the very beginning. No pattern purchase necessary because you will be planning your quilt, deciding on size, and drafting blocks. We will discuss color choices. Naomi will help with tips and tricks for sizing blocks to fit.
You are encouraged to bring your own ideas for the quilt you want to make. But you are welcome to follow along with Naomi on whatever she is working on. She won't be providing any patterns, but will walk you through her process and give you measurements she used.
In January, we're going to keep it simple with a Plaidish pattern. It's a one block pattern with sashing. This quilt is all about color usage. Drafting the block is easy, you simply choose what size you want. We will discuss common proportions used in traditional blocks for drafting.
In February, we're going to get a little more complicated (but it's all still easy!) starting with half-square triangles. We'll get a bit more adventurous with the drafting blocks.
In March, since the HST quilt top isn't quite done, we may discuss how to fit the next round when the measurement is off for a row of blocks. For example, your row of hourglass blocks measures 64" but the quilt top side is 62.5".
